Leah Lamm  ·  Owner & Host, My Brown County Vacation

My name is Leah Lamm. I'm a Brown County local, Airbnb Superhost, and Vrbo Premier Host, and I've been personally hosting boutique vacation rentals near Nashville, Indiana for eight years. I own and operate two properties — the 1891 Schoolhouse Inn, a restored hilltop schoolhouse, and Helmsburg Homestead, a heritage log cabin on five private acres one mile from downtown Nashville. I am involved in every detail of every stay. My Brown County Vacation is not managed by a property management company. I answer my own phone, prepare each home personally, and bring eight years of local knowledge to every guest experience. I've been featured in Columbus Monthly and Indianapolis Monthly. If you're looking for boutique vacation rentals in Brown County, Indiana, hosted by someone who genuinely knows this place, mybrowncountyvacation.com is where to start.

The Heart Behind the Hospitality

A story built on loss, love, and an old Indiana schoolhouse.

My journey as a host began after one of the hardest seasons of my life. My husband and my father both passed away within six months of each other. Returning to Indiana to be closer to family brought comfort — and so did returning to something I’ve always known: hospitality.

Eight years ago I purchased the historic 1891 Schoolhouse in the heart of Brown County and slowly turned it into a charming and successful vacation rental. My dad taught me how to be a gracious host. My husband — my travel partner for more than 30 years — taught me how to be a thoughtful guest. That combination shapes every detail I’ve poured into My Brown County Vacation.

Their spirit lives on in the way I welcome guests, prepare each home, and think about the experience from arrival to departure.

“When you stay with me, you’re not simply reserving a vacation rental — you’re stepping into a story built on care, intentional hospitality, and a deep appreciation for this special corner of Indiana.”

What began as a single restored schoolhouse has grown into a second property — Helmsburg Homestead — a peaceful five-acre retreat designed for friends, families, and fellow travelers seeking a true escape.

Featured in Columbus Monthly and Indianapolis Monthly. Consistently top-rated across both Airbnb and Vrbo. It is my privilege to share Brown County with you.

Eight Years of Local Knowledge

Brown County is my backyard. Let me show you around.

Brown County, Indiana is home to more than 16,000 acres of state forest, 20-plus miles of award-winning mountain bike trails, an active arts colony of more than 150 working artists, four wineries, two craft distilleries, and a downtown Nashville arts district that draws visitors from across the Midwest year-round. I've been hosting guests through all of it for eight years. I know which trails are worth the early alarm, which wineries pour on weekday afternoons, and exactly what to recommend to a couple celebrating an anniversary versus a group of friends chasing fall color.

Hiking & Trails
Brown County State Park has 20+ miles of trails ranging from gentle loops to rugged ridgeline routes. Hesitation Point is the most photographed overlook in the park — wide open views stretching for miles, stunning any time of year. For a true bird's-eye perspective, climb the West Lookout Tower at sunset. Give yourself a full morning and pack water.
Wineries & Distilleries
Brown County Winery has been family-owned since 1985 and pours complimentary daily tastings. Hard Truth Distilling Co. on the wooded Hard Truth Hills is a must for spirits lovers — their handcrafted rum and whiskey are exceptional.
Arts & Culture
Brown County's art colony has been drawing painters, sculptors, and glassblowers for over a century. The T.C. Steele State Historic Site — home and studio of Indiana's most influential Impressionist — is one of the most overlooked gems in the county.
Mountain Biking
Brown County State Park is home to some of the most celebrated mountain bike trails in the Midwest — 20+ miles of award-winning, well-maintained routes for every skill level, built into the natural topography of Indiana's most rugged hills.
Fall Foliage
Brown County is Indiana's fall color capital — peak foliage typically runs mid-October through early November. Book early; weekends sell out months in advance. I always tell guests: come mid-week for the same color and half the crowds.
Day Trips
Nashville, Indiana sits within easy reach of Bloomington (20 min), Columbus (30 min, known for world-class architecture), and Indianapolis (60 min). Brown County makes a perfect base for exploring south-central Indiana.
“I don’t just hand guests a key and wish them well. I share what I actually know — the back roads, the quiet mornings, the local spots that don’t show up on any listicle. Eight years of hosting here is the best welcome book I can offer.”
