Discover Live Music at the Brown County Music Center
I’m a blues fan. Have been my whole life. Nina Simone at the Vine Street Bar & Grill in Los Angeles. Koko Taylor at the Checkerboard Lounge in Chicago. So when Buddy Guy came to the Brown County Music Center, I was there — and I left thinking: how does a venue this good exist in a town this small?
The answer is that Brown County has always punched above its weight when it comes to live music. The original Little Nashville Opry drew people to this county for decades before it burned down in 2009. When the Music Center opened in 2019, it picked up that tradition and ran with it — 2,000 seats, state-of-the-art acoustics, and a booking calendar that reads like someone with genuinely good taste is in charge.
Vince Gill played the opening night. The stage has hosted country, rock, comedy, and everything in between. But for me, it was Buddy Guy that made it real. That’s a show I’ll remember for a long time.

Big-name performances in a small-town setting.
What makes the Music Center special isn’t just the caliber of artists — it’s the size. Just over 2,000 seats means you’re never far from the stage. The acoustics are genuinely excellent. And the whole experience feels intimate in a way that arena concerts simply can’t be.
The venue sits along Salt Creek, bordered by scenic woods, just minutes from Brown County State Park and the artisan shops of downtown Nashville. It’s not uncommon to spend the afternoon hiking or gallery-browsing and then walk into a world-class show that evening. That combination is hard to find anywhere else.
Check the calendar before your trip — there’s almost always something worth planning around. And if something good is on while you’re here, don’t overthink it. Just go.

How I’d plan a Music Center night.
Start with a late afternoon in downtown Nashville — browse the galleries, pick up dinner at one of the local restaurants, take your time. The drive to the Music Center from downtown is easy and quick. Arrive early enough to find good seats and take in the venue before the lights go down.
After the show, head back to wherever you’re staying and let the evening settle in. That’s the part hotels can’t give you — a quiet place to come down from a good night without having to drive an hour home.
Helmsburg Homestead is 6 minutes from the Music Center. The Schoolhouse Inn is 20.

Brown County has always been a music town.
The Music Center didn’t come out of nowhere. It came out of a community that had been building a live music identity for decades — through the Little Nashville Opry, through the local venues and honky-tonks, through the artists who kept showing up because the audiences here actually listen.
When the Opry burned in 2009, the community didn’t let it end there. They rebuilt — bigger, better, and with a booking calendar that now brings in artists from every genre. That’s the kind of place Brown County is. It takes the things it loves seriously.
As someone who lives here and loves this county, the Music Center is one of the things I’m proudest to recommend to guests. It represents everything that makes Brown County worth the drive.
